A Week from Hell

AHHHH! I feel like I’m living the life of Job. You know how one minute he was on top of the world and then the next everything that could go wrong, did? Yeah, I’m there!

For me it all started in early June…

1.
A couple weeks in I got a letter from DMV stating they needed proof of insurance for May 2009 when I actually didn’t have coverage and if I didn’t provide proof by the 18th my license would be suspended and I would owe $500 for a SR-22! So of course I quickly call Geico to see what my options were and they assured me that everything would be okay and that they would file the paperwork on my behind since I was currently insured.

stock.xchng.Buried Alive!.MeHere.253947At the end of June I had to renew my registration, but every time I tired online it kept telling me to call DMV. When I did they informed me that:
* They never received the paperwork,
* They had suspended my license,
* I couldn’t renew my registration,
* I had to file a SR-22 and pay $500, and
* I had to pay to get my license reinstated, which was another $80!
What! Are you kidding me?

As you may or may not know the best move-in specials occur during the winter months. My lease is up in September and I really want to move again and had planned to go month-to-month until December, when prime moving time approached. Seems my life as Job had other plans for me.

I get a letter from management detailing my renewal options and none of it was good!
stock.xchng.Debt & Demand 4.woodsy.6865571. Without any changes, another 12-month lease would increase my rent by $42 a month.
2. A 6-month lease (ending in March) would increase my rent by $104 a month.
3. A 3-month lease (ending in December) would increase my rent by $227 a month, and
4. To go month-to-month with a 60 day notice would increase my rent by $375 a month!
Is that bananas or what! Now I’m stressed to either pay the extra rent or come up with a deposit & 1st month rent to a new place before the end of September. Bananas!

stock.xchng.neat desk.furnishu.274258The cable, internet and telephone service for my apartment sucks! They just recently added Verizon, which I quickly jumped on, but that whole process has lead to more stress.

If it wasn’t for my Palm Centro, which can be used as a modem, I would have been without Internet for over a month now! When I called Verizon last Thursday to confirm their installation appointment they had no idea what I was referring to. So while at work, skipping lunch, I stayed on the phone for over an hour while I was transferred 8 times and had to start a new order from scratch. As if the irritation of that wasn’t enough, I also have to wait another two weeks for installation!

Once I got back to my desk from my hour conversation with Verizon, I found a meeting request from my boss and HR. Wondering whether it’s good or bad, from 2:30 to 5:00 all I could do was worry; which turned out to be a good reaction…because I got fired!

So, at 5:00pm Thursday evening I go home in this state:

* No job,
* Suspended license,
* $600+ owed to DMV,
* Delayed Internet installation, and
* Option of increased rent or sooner move out date

Though I was at the bottom of the barrel I was still feeling a sense of confidence and security. I knew that things would work out in the end, and so I was able to jump right into job hunting without a 2nd thought. By the end of the night I had found at least three jobs to apply to on Friday and I went to bed feeling good. stock.xchng.Do not park.openmindad.642968 Unfortunately…I woke up to find my car had been towed for the expired registration/decals that I couldn’t renew yet!

Frustrated, as I’m sure you can understand, I called the towing company and give them the whole spill of my story just to hear the woman reply, “You still have to pay the $125 to get the car back; and it’s an extra $25 per day you don’t pick up.” That heffa!

In 48hours my world turned upside down and it made me realize just how vulnerable we all are and how quickly things can be taken from up and our situations changed. For me, it took about 3 hours before I could even begin to piece together how I was gonna get back on track, but I know for so many other people, it takes a lot longer to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
